EcoLASTANE results presented in a SUMMER SCHOOL – CATALYSIS OF BIOMASS in the Czech Republic by CERTH | July, 2014
The Summer School – Catalysis Of Biomass, held in Liblice Castle in the Czech Republic from June 8th to 11th 2014, was focused on reviewing the main catalytic transformations currently under development for the production of advanced biofuels, highlighting the relevance of controlling and tuning the catalyst propertiesto optimize their performance for the processing of the complex mixtures typically present during biomass conversion. The event targets young pre- and postdoctoral researchers interested in the topic.
CERTH’s PhD student Asimina Marianou led a poster presentation with the tittle Conversion Of Cellulose To HMF In Polar Aprotic Solvents. In this work the results from one-pot synthesis of HMF from crystalline cellulose were presented, a development under Work Package 3.
The summer school is organized in the frame of the European project CAScade deoxygenation process using tailored nanoCATalysts for the production of BiofuELs from lignocellulosic biomass. Among the invited speakers was Angelos Lappas from CERTH, giving a lecture on Characterization and properties of bio-oils produced from lignocellulose by pyrolysis and catalytic pyrolysis.
